The Nollywood Yoruba film industry has been plunged into mourning once again following the tragic death of veteran actor, Odunayo Olufemi Oloto, fondly known simply as Oloto. The sad news was confirmed on Friday, August 1st, shaking the Yoruba movie community to its core.

Popular actor and director Kunle Afod took to his official Instagram page to announce and mourn the passing of his colleague. In a deeply emotional tribute, Afod recounted the final moments of Oloto’s life, revealing that the actor had gone to church but began to feel unwell. Seeking immediate help, Oloto crossed over to a hospital located opposite the church. Tragically, before he could receive medical attention, he slumped while speaking to the receptionist and passed away on the spot.

“I can’t believe you are no more,” Kunle Afod wrote. “Your news came to me as a shock. You went to church, complained about it, and went to the hospital opposite your church. You sat down to complain to the receptionist about how you were feeling, but instead died immediately. What a world. Vanity upon vanity. All is vanity. Rest in peace, my friend. It’s a wrap.”

The unexpected death of Odunayo Olufemi has stirred a wave of grief across the Yoruba film industry, with many actors and fans expressing shock over the loss of yet another talented performer.

Actress Regina Chukwu also paid tribute to the late actor, describing him as not only her senior colleague but a mentor who provided invaluable advice throughout her career. In her heartfelt message, she referred to him as a “true boss” and thanked him for his guidance.

“Thank you for your advice, for your guidance, and for always being there,” Regina shared. “May your soul rest well, sir.”

Sadly, Oloto's death was not the only tragedy to hit Nollywood on Friday. The death of upcoming Yoruba actress Omotola Odunsi, known for her role in Lisabi, was also announced on the same day, compounding the sorrow in the entertainment industry.

The Nollywood Yoruba community continues to grapple with the repeated losses of its stars in 2025. As fans and colleagues mourn, the deaths of Odunayo Olufemi Oloto and Omotola Odunsi serve as stark reminders of life’s fragility.
