Nollywood star Lizzy Gold has penned a touching birthday tribute to her friend and colleague, Destiny Etiko, opening up about the reason behind their past fallout and celebrating their renewed friendship.
In a lengthy Instagram post, Lizzy revealed that she and Destiny drifted apart two years ago due to gossip and false rumours circulating within the film industry. She admitted that the separation left her feeling lonely, as she doesn’t easily make friends like Destiny does. Instead, she poured all her energy into her acting career, though she still missed her friend.
According to Lizzy, she often admired how effortlessly Destiny socialized with people, later realizing it was simply part of her nature. She thanked God that Destiny eventually realized she had been misled and returned to their friendship.
Lizzy acknowledged that some individuals are still attempting to stir trouble between them but stated that they’ve both grown and no longer give attention to idle talk.
Praising Destiny’s character, she described her as having “a beautiful soul” and being one of the few who truly understands her. She reaffirmed her love for Destiny and offered prayers for her continued success and blessings.
Quoting her post, Lizzy wrote:
“Two years ago, we separated as friends because of too many ‘them say’ in Nollywood. I became lonely because I don’t make friends easily like you do. So I channelled all the energy into my craft but missed you. Sometimes I would watch how you mingle so easily and wonder how you do it, but I realised it’s your nature. Thank God you realised you were deceived and came back to me. Some people are still trying to resume ‘them say,’ but trust me, when you start with them say again, we will discuss and laugh over you. Everyone has grown; nobody has the energy to listen to gossip anymore. Destiny, you have a beautiful soul and are one of the few people who understand me. I love you for who you are. I love your imperfections. I pray today that God will open His heavens and release more blessings for you and your household. Please do not let any weapon in the form of humans separate us again. You already know I do not give rooms for gossip. I love you, Baby. Happy birthday to my friend, my hardworking colleague, my love.”
Their reconciliation comes after public speculation about their relationship last year. In June 2024, Destiny hinted at a rift when she unfollowed Lizzy on Instagram. The move sparked debates among fans — with some accusing Destiny of often clashing with colleagues, while others speculated Lizzy might have offended her.
Lizzy, however, dismissed the rumours by promoting one of Destiny’s films on her Instagram page. Destiny later responded in the comments, and not long after, the pair re-followed each other.
To further lay the matter to rest, Lizzy also celebrated Destiny’s birthday last year, showering her with prayers and calling her “my love.”
