TikTok content creator Peller has publicly expressed his frustration after receiving a tax bill from the Lagos State Government that he says is far beyond what he can afford.
During a livestream conversation with music star Peruzzi, Peller claimed that officials from the Lagos State Internal Revenue Service demanded he pay N36 million in income tax.
“Taskforce said I should pay N36 million for tax. I don’t have anything. I just came into the limelight last year,” Peller lamented during the discussion.
Peruzzi, in response, questioned his decision not to address the matter earlier.
“Why haven’t you paid your taxes? Do you know you’re supposed to pay tax as a Nigerian? Do you know how much I pay as tax? I won’t mention it here but it’s more than the tax bill they gave you,” Peruzzi told him, warning that failure to pay could result in jail time.
Peller insisted the amount was outrageous, adding that he had never received any support from the government despite his popularity and online earnings. He also suggested that his flashy online presence might be the reason he was singled out.
The TikTok star noted that his income comes mainly from international social media platforms, which further fuels his dissatisfaction with the demand.
Meanwhile Peruzzi advised him to seek an extension to sort out the payment, Peller stood firm on his stance that the tax claim was excessive.
