Popular broadcaster and founder of Agidigbo FM, Oriyomi Hamzat, has publicly apologized to Nigerian singer Naira Marley and announced that the station will once again play his songs after a two-year suspension of Marlian Records music.

The ban was introduced following the death of former Marlian Records signee, Mohbad, in September 2023. Mohbad’s tragic passing, which sparked outrage across Nigeria and the diaspora, was accompanied by widespread allegations linking Naira Marley and his label to the late singer’s struggles. In the heat of public anger, Agidigbo FM joined several platforms in cutting ties with the Marlian brand.

However, Hamzat revealed that after a thorough review and new perspectives on the matter, he has decided to reverse his earlier position.

Speaking on-air, the broadcaster admitted that his judgment may have been too harsh at the time, stressing that it was driven by the emotional atmosphere surrounding Mohbad’s passing.

In his words, “I want to use this medium to apologize to Naira Marley. At the time of Mohbad’s death, emotions were high, and in seeking justice for the young artist, I made decisions that were perhaps unfair to Marley and his music. Today, I believe it is only right to retrace my steps and make peace.”

Hamzat further disclosed that Agidigbo FM would be reintroducing Naira Marley’s music to its playlist effective immediately, describing the decision as one taken in the spirit of reconciliation. “Music is for everyone, and our job is to give listeners the diversity they deserve. I believe it is time to move forward,” he added.

The announcement has sparked mixed reactions from fans. While many welcomed the move as a step toward healing, others felt Hamzat owed Mohbad’s family a clearer explanation.

A section of the public also argued that the apology might reignite debates about whether enough has been done to uncover the circumstances behind Mohbad’s death.

For Naira Marley, the apology comes as a significant development after a turbulent period that saw his name dragged into one of the most controversial scandals in Nigeria’s music industry.

Although the singer had consistently denied any involvement in Mohbad’s troubles, the public backlash led to canceled shows, loss of endorsements, and a sharp decline in his public image.

With Agidigbo FM now lifting the ban, observers say the move could open doors for Marley’s gradual reacceptance in the Nigerian music space. Industry watchers also note that the reconciliation may encourage other media outlets that distanced themselves from Marlian Records to reconsider their stance.

As the dust begins to settle, fans of both Mohbad and Naira Marley continue to call for peace and justice, hoping that the industry can find a way to honor Mohbad’s legacy without further division.
