Veteran Yoruba actor Olakunle Da Silva has expressed heartfelt gratitude to Nollywood superstar and filmmaker Funke Akindele for what he describes as a life-changing act of kindness in his career. In a recent statement, Da Silva revealed that Funke Akindele was instrumental in helping him secure a lucrative endorsement deal with Glo Network, a move that significantly boosted his career profile and financial standing.
“I was the first Yoruba actor that actress Funke Akindele recommended to Glo Network to become their ambassador,” Da Silva said. “She made herself available for God to use in uplifting me. At that time, the help she gave me felt almost unbelievable, as if I had performed money rituals, because of the huge amount Glo Network paid me for being their ambassador. It was truly the handiwork of Funke Akindele.”
According to Da Silva, Funke Akindele never sought any financial compensation for her help. “Funke Akindele never asks for a dime in return. All she desires is your loyalty and sincerity. She has helped many actors in the industry, and I am proud to be one of them,” he added.
Funke Akindele’s Selfless Contributions to Nollywood
Funke Akindele, known for her blockbuster movies such as Battle on Buka Street and A Tribe Called Judah, is not just an award-winning actress and producer—she is also recognized for her generosity toward fellow actors in the Nigerian movie industry, particularly in the Yoruba-language sector of Nollywood.
Her support extends far beyond career opportunities like brand ambassadorships. In recent years, several Nollywood stars have come forward to testify about her willingness to help without expecting anything in return. One notable example is Debbie Shokoya, a rising Yoruba actress and producer. Shokoya publicly acknowledged that Funke Akindele has promoted her movies on social media without collecting a single naira. According to Shokoya, Funke’s endorsement brought significant attention to her projects, helping them reach a wider audience and boosting her credibility in the competitive Nollywood landscape.
A Reputation Built on Loyalty and Kindness
Within the Yoruba movie industry, Funke Akindele’s name is synonymous with mentorship, generosity, and genuine support for talent. Many actors point to her as a key figure who actively uses her influence to uplift others—whether through sharing their work with her massive fan base, recommending them for roles, or connecting them to lucrative brand deals.
Da Silva’s and Shokoya’s experiences serve as compelling reminders that, in an industry often marked by fierce competition, there are still individuals committed to building others up. Funke Akindele’s actions reflect a deep belief in loyalty, sincerity, and the idea that success is best enjoyed when it is shared.
Her story is yet another example of how behind-the-scenes acts of kindness can shape careers, transform lives, and strengthen the bond within Nollywood’s Yoruba-speaking community.
