Popular Nigerian skit maker and comedian, Brain Jotter (real name: Chukwuebuka Emmanuel Amuzie), has taken a bold leap from short-form comedy into full-length cinematic storytelling with his latest project “The Test.”

Released today on YouTube, the film showcases Brain Jotter's growing ambition to evolve beyond skits and create longer narratives that blend humour, morality, and real-life experiences in a digestible way.

“The Test” opens with a seemingly simple scenario that quickly spirals into a tense, emotionally charged situation.

The story follows a young man, played by Brain Jotter himself, who decides to secretly test the loyalty of his girlfriend.

He involves his friend in the plan, with the intention of setting her up to see if she would fall for temptation.

But things do not go as expected. What begins as a lighthearted scheme soon unravels into a tale of betrayal, misjudgement, and deep regret.

The strength of The Test lies in its relatability. Many Nigerians, particularly the youth, have either heard stories or considered “testing” their partners in one way or another. Brain Jotter taps into that social reality and amplifies it with his unique comedic flair.

While the subject matter is serious dealing with trust, relationships, and consequences it’s layered with humour that doesn’t feel out of place. His ability to move fluidly between comedy and drama is commendable.

The cinematography is clean and simple, keeping the viewer focused on the characters and their interactions.

Shot in a single location for the most part, the film maintains a strong narrative flow without relying on multiple settings or complex visuals.

The dialogue feels natural, often echoing the way young Nigerians speak in real life, making the conversations easy to follow and engaging.

One standout feature of the movie is its twist. Just when the audience thinks they’ve figured out how things will play out, Brain Jotter delivers a surprising turn that reinforces the film’s central message: sometimes, the real test isn’t for others, but for ourselves. In trying to expose someone else’s weakness, we often reveal our own flaws.

The acting is decent across board. Brain Jotter, as expected, is comfortable in front of the camera, delivering his lines with confidence and impeccable timing.

The supporting cast also performs well, especially the actor who plays his close friend a role that adds both tension and comic relief to the story.

However, The Test is not without its shortcomings. There are moments where the pacing drags, especially in the middle section.

Some scenes feel like they could have been trimmed for better effect. Also, while the message is clear, a more nuanced character development for the girlfriend would have added emotional depth to her decisions and reactions.

Still, The Test is a strong outing for Brain Jotter’s transition into long-form storytelling. It highlights his maturity as a content creator willing to take risks and explore darker, more introspective themes without losing his signature humour.

For a film released for free on YouTube, the production value is impressive and the storyline is tight enough to keep viewers hooked till the end.

In an age where skit makers are becoming powerful voices in Nigeria’s entertainment landscape, The Test is proof that Brain Jotter is more than just a funny guy online. He is becoming a filmmaker with a voice, capable of sparking conversation while entertaining his audience.

The Test dropped today on Brain Jotter’s official YouTube channel and is already generating buzz across social media platforms. It’s worth a watch not just for the laughs, but for the lesson it leaves behind.
