Veteran Nollywood actor Jim Iyke has stirred fresh controversy with his recent criticism of modern feminism, describing the movement as a distorted ideology that borders on criminality.

In a candid interview with The EchoRoom, the 48-year-old actor voiced his concerns over what he sees as the deviation of feminism from its original purpose.

Iyke, known for his outspoken nature and bold takes on social issues, stated that early feminist movements were necessary and impactful.

According to him, the original purpose of feminism was to challenge real societal issues such as patriarchy, inequality, and the marginalization of women. However, he believes the modern version has taken an aggressive and divisive turn.

“I consider it a crime, a kind of assault,” Iyke declared. “The perpetrators of this… clearly, I would not name the magazine… launched a clever campaign to push sales. Who were their chief readers? Women. So they devised an ideology that allowed women to challenge the status quo and compete with men in the same space.”

The actor suggested that the modern feminist movement was strategically marketed by a popular women’s magazine, initially as a tool to boost sales, but it gradually evolved into a mindset where some women began to believe that men were no longer necessary.

He argued that what began as a progressive idea has been blown out of proportion and has now become a lifestyle embraced by many, rather than a movement for genuine equality.

“This was a campaign that went too far, and certain women fully embraced the ideology. They decided that this whole ideology of ‘we do not need a man, anything a man can do we can do better’… escalated, and blew it out of proportion. Now it has been adopted as a lifestyle, and a new cultural standard,” he explained.

Iyke went further to criticize what he described as the “double standards” within modern feminist discourse. According to him, the ideology often fails to promote harmony and mutual respect between genders. Instead, it creates a competitive and adversarial dynamic.

“The double standard of it all is what makes me question the ideology in the first place. Do you not understand the falsehood of it? The two-faced approach to it? I believe men and women have distinct roles and when they work together in harmony that is when true balance is achieved. That is what they are yet to understand,” he emphasized.

His comments have already triggered discussions across social media, with mixed reactions from fans and critics alike. While some agree with his perspective on gender balance and the need for collaboration between men and women, others have accused him of promoting a regressive and harmful narrative.

Jim Iyke, who has never shied away from controversial opinions, has previously drawn public attention over remarks concerning relationships, lifestyle, and even food.

With this latest statement, he has once again placed himself at the center of public discourse challenging deeply rooted ideologies and urging a return to what he calls "natural harmony" between the sexes.

Whether his views spark meaningful conversations or more backlash, one thing is clear: Jim Iyke remains unafraid to speak his truth, regardless of how controversial it may be.
