On Friday, August 8, 2025, Nigerian music star Tiwa Savage bared her soul in a candid interview with British media personality Zeze Mills, expressing deep reflections on her love life.

In what many are calling one of her most emotionally raw interviews yet, the 45-year-old singer declared that the only genuine love she has ever experienced is the one she shares with her son, Jamil.

“I’ve never felt true love except with my son. Looking back at my relationships, even my marriage, I realise it wasn’t love,” she said during the interview.

Tiwa Savage, known for her boldness and vulnerability in her music, said her romantic relationships  including her marriage to music executive Tunji “TeeBillz” Balogun  were based more on infatuation than real love.

Her marriage, which began in 2013 and ended in divorce in 2018, had long been a subject of public scrutiny.

“Maybe love isn’t for me because I have tried over and over again, so maybe love isn’t for me this lifetime,” Savage stated, casting doubt on whether she is meant to experience romantic love at all.

The singer reflected on how difficult the end of her marriage was, noting that she was going through postpartum depression at the time.

She said the public offered little sympathy, and she was harshly criticised, especially after speaking out about her ex-husband’s role in their split. She claimed she was also advised by some influential figures to remain silent in order to protect her image.

“In December last year, I talked about my divorce, how I was battling postpartum depression, and yet I was attacked for speaking my truth,” she recalled.

Despite all of this, Tiwa Savage has continued to maintain her status as one of Nigeria’s leading musical exports. With global hits, international recognition, and a loyal fan base, the ‘Kele Kele Love’ crooner has proven that her personal struggles have only strengthened her career.

Savage’s remarks have sparked widespread conversation online, with many fans expressing empathy and admiration for her honesty. Others believe her emotional vulnerability further solidifies her status as a cultural icon who isn’t afraid to share her truth   no matter how painful.

As the conversation around love, healing, and womanhood continues to evolve in the public space, Tiwa Savage’s words resonate with many who are navigating heartbreak and redefining what love means in their lives.

Her revelations serve as a reminder that behind the glitz of stardom are real struggles and that love, in its truest form, may sometimes come from the most unexpected places — like the unconditional bond between a mother and her child.
