Nigerian singer Magixx has blamed the rise of streaming farms for the noticeable drop in the number of breakout artists in the country’s music industry in recent years.

Taking to his X (formerly Twitter) handle, the Mavin Records signee alleged that most of the top positions on major streaming platforms are now “bought,” making it harder for emerging talents to break through organically.

“Just so y’all know, the reason why we don’t have enough breakout artists these days is because almost every spot on Apple Music is bought!”

Magixx wrote.

His statement adds to ongoing concerns in the industry about the manipulation of music charts through artificial means. These alleged tactics include the use of bots or automated systems to inflate the number of plays that songs or albums receive on platforms like Apple Music and Spotify.

Despite the growing debate, several prominent figures in the industry have continued to deny the existence of such practices.

Last year, Don Jazzy, the CEO of Mavin Records and Magixx’s label boss, dismissed allegations that he uses streaming farms to boost the performance of his artists’ tracks.

He insisted that streaming farms are a myth and maintained that neither he nor his label engages in such practices.
