Former Big Brother Naija star Uriel Oputa has expressed deep pain over the passing of her uncle, veteran Nollywood actor Chief Fabian Adibe, who died at the age of 82 in the early hours of Wednesday, August 20th, around 2:30 am.
Taking to her Instagram story, Uriel hinted at the hypocrisy that often follows the death of Nollywood legends. She noted that while tributes would soon flood the internet, many people never reached out to her uncle while he was alive.
“I’m just waiting for the fake love to start. I can’t say much out of respect, but you see this one here. It’s very personal to me, and I will say this: Nobody checked on my uncle. To my bestie Chi and her sister NK, God bless you both for what you did for Popsi. Rest on, sir,” she wrote.
Her words echo long-standing concerns about the culture of fake love in Nollywood. Last year, actress Ruth Eze lamented the same issue, questioning why some colleagues publicly celebrate people they had consistently criticized. She admitted she could never fake a smile just to fit into the crowd.
In a similar tone, Yoruba actor Kevin Ikeduba once called out the industry for being filled with insincere individuals. In a viral video, he described Nollywood as a place where many pretend to care but fail to genuinely support one another. According to him, the industry harbors “the most fake set of human beings” who struggle to show real love.
Chief Fabian Adibe’s passing has now reignited that conversation, with Uriel’s emotional outburst adding weight to the debate on whether Nollywood truly values its own until it is too late.
