Ibom Air Passenger Freed as Court Accepts Withdrawal of Case

An Ikeja Magistrate Court sitting in Ogba, Lagos State, on Wednesday discharged Comfort Emmanson, a passenger accused of unruly conduct and assault aboard an Ibom Air flight.

Magistrate Olanrewaju Salami freed Emmanson after the police formally withdrew the five charges filed against her.

Earlier, the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo (SAN), confirmed the decision after consultations with stakeholders in the aviation sector. He explained that the resolutions came following a review of the incidents, consideration of appeals from well-meaning individuals, and an assessment of the remorse shown by those involved.

Keyamo also revealed that Ibom Air had agreed to withdraw its complaint against Emmanson, who was arrested in connection with the August 10 incident.

Emmanson had been arraigned on Monday and granted bail of N500,000 with two sureties in the same amount. However, she was remanded at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre after failing to meet the bail conditions.

When the case resumed, prosecutor Oluwabunmi Adeitan informed the court that new developments had made it necessary to withdraw the matter. She subsequently filed an application for withdrawal, which the court granted, leading to Emmanson’s discharge.
