Nollywood actor Monsuru Ayanfe has opened up about his time working with star actress and filmmaker Funke Akindele, recalling an incident that left a lasting impression on him.
In a recent interview with Jeff Owolewa, Monsuru revealed that he once mistakenly crashed Funke’s brand-new car while attempting to park it after a movie shoot. According to him, Funke initially lost her temper but later shocked him by apologizing for her outburst.
“I was the one who damaged Funke Akindele’s new car while trying to park it after a movie set. Funke is someone who can get angry quickly, but when she calms down, she apologises. Even if she reacts sharply, she retraces her steps afterwards,” he said.
Speaking further, Monsuru reflected on his early career days with Femi Adebayo, noting that he once earned as little as ₦5,000 out of the ₦20,000 salary Femi was making at the time. Despite the low pay, he said his passion for acting kept him going.
“When I started out, Femi Adebayo was giving me ₦5,000 because of the love I had for acting. I didn’t mind then, because I just wanted to act,” he recalled.
This is not the first time colleagues have spoken about Funke Akindele’s influence in Nollywood. Some months ago, veteran actress Tola Oladokun praised her for opening doors in her career. She recounted how she missed her first opportunity to work with Funke but was later given another chance, which led to more collaborations.
Similarly, in April, actor Ijoba Lande shared that Funke invited him for a month-long shoot at Amen Estate, where he claimed he received ₦90,000. However, after facing backlash, he later clarified his statement, explaining that the video was misinterpreted and that Funke had actually paid him more before he left the set.
