According to report, for the first time in Nigeria’s history, Aliko Dangote, Africa’s richest man, has instructed 200 of his truck drivers to return to training centers in order to improve their driving skills. This decision comes after growing public concern over the safety of Dangote trucks on Nigerian roads and the role of driver negligence in several accidents.
The move was sparked by the outspoken advocacy of VeryDarkMan, popularly known as VDM, who has consistently raised his voice against the recklessness of some commercial truck drivers and the dangers they pose to the public. According to him, countless lives have been lost because of poor training and carelessness behind the wheel. In one of his recent calls for reform, VDM declared that the lives of ordinary Nigerians should not continue to be endangered by drivers who lack adequate skill and discipline.
When he first began to speak out, many critics dismissed him as a mere attention seeker. Others predicted that his criticisms of powerful figures like Dangote could lead to his arrest or silencing. However, his persistence has paid off. Instead of ignoring his concerns, Dangote himself has responded by taking tangible action to address the issue. The retraining of 200 drivers represents a significant step toward improving safety on the nation’s highways.
