Nollywood veteran actress Bimbo Akintola has spoken candidly about her relationship status, revealing why she remains single and without children at 52.
In a heartfelt interview with Pulse Nigeria, the celebrated actress clarified that her situation is not due to a deliberate rejection of marriage or motherhood, but rather the result of life circumstances and her deeply held values.
Akintola disclosed that she once met someone she believed was her life partner, but tragically, he passed away. Since then, she has not found another person who fits the role.
“I don’t have children, unfortunately. Marriage is important. Marriage is simple. It’s something that you do in the house of God. You go to church, call everyone that loves you, and say those vows that you will cherish and do the rest of your life with,” she said.
The actress, whose mother is from Edo State and father from Oyo State, described marriage as a sacred union, emphasizing that she would only commit to a relationship built on truth and compatibility. She insisted she would never marry someone she could not see herself spending the rest of her life with.
“I haven’t found the person I would do the rest of my life with. I did find. But he died. And I haven’t found since then. I can’t lie. I want everything to be in truthfulness. I want to be true to myself and God,” Akintola explained.
Despite her current status, she remains open to marriage, regardless of her age at the time. “If I believe I can, I would do it, even if I’m 78.
Why not? Marriage is important. It doesn’t make you women it’s not the be-all and end-all of your life. But it’s also an important thing to do, especially as you get older. There’s something called loneliness, so you need a companion for the later years,” she added.
Akintola’s remarks challenge societal expectations that often place undue pressure on women to marry and have children by a certain age.
While she acknowledges that marriage is not the ultimate measure of a woman’s worth, she also recognizes the companionship it provides, particularly in later life when children have grown and gone their separate ways.
Her openness on the subject has sparked conversation among fans and colleagues, many praising her honesty and strength in a society where women’s marital status is often heavily scrutinized.
Bimbo Akintola, known for her decades-long career in Nollywood, continues to inspire audiences not just with her talent on screen, but also with her candidness about life’s challenges and choices. Her story is a reminder that fulfillment comes in many forms, and that love, when it comes, should be grounded in truth and mutual respect.
