Anambra State’s Onyinyechi Basil has emerged as the new Miss Universe Nigeria 2025, following an exciting grand finale held in Lagos on Saturday night.
Basil clinched the crown after a dramatic showdown with Miss Lagos, Damilola Bolarinde, who secured the first runner-up spot. Her victory now positions her as Nigeria’s official delegate to the upcoming Miss Universe pageant later this year.
Other finalists who earned recognition included Bayelsa’s Fortune Kurobo, who finished as second runner-up, and Irene Ikediashi from Ogun State, who placed third. Meanwhile, Miss Akwa Ibom, Idah Eno, made it to the top five and was honored with the separate crown of Miss Supranational Nigeria 2025.
The journey began with 22 hopefuls, but only 10 advanced to the last stages. Among the finalists who narrowly missed out on the top five were De-Blessing Asaboro (Delta), Ezekiel Silver (Ekiti), Chukwukereobi Chinaza (Imo), Ugoaru Onuoha (Ebonyi), and Lagoke Funmike (Oyo).
The night was a celebration of glamour, creativity, and culture. Contestants shone in the traditional wear segment, fusing local fabrics with modern designs, while the swimwear round highlighted elegance, body positivity, and inclusivity. The show opened with vibrant choreographed performances, energizing the atmosphere from the start.
Public voting revealed massive interest, with Delta’s De-Blessing Asaboro leading the polls at 38,319 votes, followed by Lagos’ Damilola Bolarinde with 34,033, and Ekiti’s Ezekiel Silver at 28,074.
Anchored by Anthony Abraham and Victory Wilson, the finale pulled a huge crowd and sparked conversations across social media. Basil now takes over from last year’s queen, Chidinma Adetshina, stepping into the role of Nigeria’s global representative at Miss Universe 2025.
