Controversial Nollywood actor Uche Maduagwu has publicly called out May Edochie, urging her to address and caution her fans who constantly attack her estranged husband, Yul Edochie, and his new wife, Judy Austin, on social media.
Taking to Instagram, Maduagwu advised May to emulate popular actress Iyabo Ojo, whom he praised for her maturity and ability to maintain respect for her former spouse despite their separation.
He wrote, “My Queen May Queen May, Borrow WISDOM from Queen Mother, Tell your fans to stop INSLTING your Husband, (YUL) on social media. Yes, Aunty IYABO is still using her ex-husband’s NAME, but have you ever seen her FANS going to INSULT her ex-husband? NO, and I know her, she’s a GOOD woman, if she sees any of her fans creating any PAGE on social media to RIDICULE her ex-husband, she will immediately make Videos to tell them to STOP. Why? Because she’s WISE. So, why can’t my Queen May borrow WISDOM from her?”*
Maduagwu questioned May’s continued use of the Edochie surname if she would not take steps to address the online harassment allegedly being carried out by her fans. He went on to suggest that her attachment to the name might be driven by business benefits.
“If you will not make a POST to tell your fans to stop insulting the FATHER of your Pikin, why don’t you remove your husband’s name from your social media? Or is Yul’s GREAT and MIGHTY Name giving you endorsement deals?” he asked.
In a separate post, the actor appealed to May to at least consider the feelings of veteran actor Pete Edochie, Yul’s father, who has publicly supported her in the past.
According to Maduagwu, “Sir Pete Edochie is not HAPPY over Wetin My Queen May Queen May FANS Dey do. My Dear Queen May, even if you don’t want to make this post because of Yul, Abeg, make this video or POST because of Sir PETE Edochie, to tell your fans to STOP Insulting the Papa of all your Pikin (Yul) and the Edochie family.”
He reminded May of Pete’s loyalty and encouragement during her marital crisis and urged her to demonstrate leadership by calling for calm among her followers.
“My sister, it will cost you nothing to show LEADERSHIP by making this video, remember, Sir Pete Edochie always SUPPORT you, he even granted an interview to PRAISE you and never supported Yul or JUDY Oni Kaba, (DALERU DALERU) for what they did, so, why can’t you just tell your fans to stop inslting Yul and the Edochie family on social media, WHY?”*
Maduagwu’s comments have since sparked debate, with some agreeing with his message while others feel his criticism of May was unnecessary, especially given the sensitive nature of her marital situation.
