Renowned American televangelist, Jimmy Swaggart, has passed away at the age of 90, marking the end of an era in Christian broadcasting. A statement released on his official Facebook page on Tuesday confirmed his death, although the cause was not disclosed.

Swaggart, known for his fiery preaching and powerful gospel music, had a significant influence on American Pentecostalism. He was one of the most recognizable faces of televangelism during the 1980s and early 1990s, drawing millions of viewers to his televised sermons across the world.

It was revealed that the preacher had suffered a cardiac arrest last month at his residence in Louisiana. He was subsequently rushed to a local hospital, where he had been receiving treatment until his passing.

A cousin to legendary rock icon Jerry Lee Lewis, Swaggart started his ministry with humble beginnings but rose to become a towering figure in evangelical circles.

Despite facing several public scandals during his career, he remained active in ministry, running the Family Worship Center in Baton Rouge and broadcasting sermons through the SonLife Broadcasting Network.

His impact was not only in preaching but also in music. Swaggart was an accomplished gospel pianist and singer, having released dozens of albums and earning numerous awards within the Christian music community.

As tributes continue to pour in, many followers have described him as “a vessel of revival” and “a pioneer who brought millions to Christ through the screen.”

Jimmy Swaggart is survived by his wife, Frances Swaggart, and their son, Donnie, who is also a prominent preacher.
