Richard Eyimofe Evans Mofe-Damijo, popularly known as RMD, marked his 64th birthday on July 6, 2025. Born in 1961 in Aladja, Delta State, RMD has spent over four decades shaping and influencing the Nigerian entertainment industry, from his early days in television to becoming a towering figure in Nollywood cinema.

Before Nollywood became a recognized global force, RMD had already established himself as a household name through his work in television.

He started his professional career as a journalist, writing for Concord Newspapers and Quality Magazine, before transitioning into acting.

His early appearances in soap operas such as Ripples and Checkmate captured the attention of Nigerian audiences and firmly positioned him as one of the most charismatic faces on screen.

RMD’s big-screen presence is nothing short of magnetic. One of his earliest and most influential works was Out of Bounds (1997), a film he wrote and produced.

It was a bold move that signaled his intent to go beyond acting and influence storytelling in Nollywood from behind the camera. The film’s exploration of family, spirituality, and responsibility resonated deeply with audiences at the time.

His role in the record-breaking romantic comedy The Wedding Party (2016) remains one of his most memorable. RMD played Felix Onwuka, the elegant and sharp-tongued father of the groom. His portrayal blended authority with warmth and humour, helping the film achieve box office success and international acclaim.

In Oloibiri (2015), RMD took on a much more serious and socially driven role. Set in the Niger Delta, the film explored the devastating consequences of oil exploration. RMD’s performance as a former militant leader seeking redemption was intense, emotional, and layered, earning him critical praise for capturing the complexities of a broken but hopeful man.

One of his most riveting performances in recent years came in the Netflix thriller The Black Book (2023). RMD played Paul Edima, a retired military man whose son is killed in a conspiracy. The film showcased a new side of the actor gritty, action-driven, and emotionally raw. It introduced him to a new generation of global viewers and reminded longtime fans of his incredible range.

In 2025, RMD starred in and produced the film Radio Voice (2025), where he played a veteran radio host fighting to save a struggling station while mending broken relationships from his past. The film opened strong at the box office and was praised for its emotional storytelling, with many calling it one of his most personal projects to date.

At 64, RMD remains one of Nigeria’s most respected and enduring screen icons. His legacy is marked not just by longevity, but by continuous reinvention and dedication to craft.

As an actor, producer, and former public servant, he has lived a life worthy of celebration. With every role, RMD proves that age is no limit to greatness only a marker of how far one has come.
