Popular Nigerian talent manager, Ubi Franklin, has sparked debate after stating that promiscuity is the biggest challenge plaguing many music artists, both male and female.

Speaking during a recent episode of the Culture Sonic Podcast, Franklin said the issue often arises once an artist becomes successful and begins to experience fame.

“The only artist that can be controlled is the one that has not had a hit. Once they have a hit, the first biggest problem for artists is womanising. For female singers, it’s promiscuity as well,” he claimed.

Franklin, who has managed some of Nigeria’s top musical acts over the years, suggested that success often brings with it distractions that derail artists from focusing on their careers. He added that many up-and-coming talents are easier to manage due to their humility and hunger for success, but that quickly changes when the spotlight shines on them.

His remarks shed light on a well-known but rarely addressed issue in the Nigerian entertainment industry. Franklin's statements also echo long-running concerns about the personal lives of celebrities being in the public eye  often for the wrong reasons.

The Nigerian music industry has been riddled with allegations of infidelity, sexual misconduct, and scandals involving leaked intimate videos.

While the culture of celebrity excess is not unique to Nigeria, Franklin’s remarks suggest the problem is especially rampant among rising stars who lack discipline or are not prepared for fame.

Ubi Franklin's candid comments have already drawn attention online, with some critics accusing him of generalising, while others praised him for boldly stating a harsh truth.

His claim reignites conversations about the need for mentorship, mental health support, and stronger management structures for Nigerian artists, particularly those navigating sudden fame.

Whether the industry takes his concerns seriously remains to be seen, but Franklin's bold take has certainly stirred conversations within the entertainment circle.
