Omoni Oboli Reflects on Her 24-Year Marriage: ‘Divorce Was Never an Option’

Nollywood actress and filmmaker Omoni Oboli has opened up about the foundation that has kept her 24-year marriage with husband, Nnamdi Oboli, strong and unshaken despite the odds. 

In a recent interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo, Omoni offered an intimate glimpse into their journey, revealing that their lasting bond was built on a powerful, mutual decision: divorce was never to be an option.

“From day one, we decided that divorce was not an option even before we got married,” she stated, noting that the decision was made before they even walked down the aisle in 2000. This early agreement, she said, created a solid framework of commitment that has guided them through the challenges of marriage over the years.

Omoni also spoke passionately about the role of forgiveness in their relationship, asserting that most issues in marriages can be resolved if both partners are willing to let go of offences. “There’s almost nothing someone can do that you can’t forgive, if you want to forgive. We all have to realise that we’re all sinners,” she explained.

Interestingly, Omoni disclosed that the beginning of their marital life wasn’t all rosy. She described their first year together as extremely turbulent, in large part because of how quickly everything happened. Her husband, Nnamdi, proposed just two weeks after they met, and they tied the knot only four months later.

 “I was young. Till today, I don’t know how I agreed to marry him so quickly. But I know I fell in love with the way my husband loved me,” she shared, reflecting on how love at first sight transformed into a lasting union.

While many would consider such a whirlwind romance a red flag, Omoni believes their fast-paced love story was simply meant to be. The filmmaker has been vocal over the years about the importance of intentionality in relationships, and her latest reflections only reinforce that perspective.

Despite the ups and downs, Omoni and Nnamdi have raised a beautiful family together and continue to support each other’s careers and passions.
