Veteran Nollywood actor, Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, has opened up about a harrowing health ordeal that kept him bedridden for years and led to widespread rumors of his death.
The actor recounted how it all began on his way to a film location for the late Arakangudu’s movie. He suddenly experienced a sharp, piercing pain in his chest. Despite the discomfort, his apprentice managed to drive him to the set. There, a colleague suggested it could be an ulcer and advised him to break his fast. Although reluctant at first due to his spiritual commitment, Ogogo eventually gave in as the pain became unbearable. After drinking a simple mixture of milk and water, he felt immediate relief.
Initially, Ogogo believed he was suffering from malaria and resorted to home remedies. However, upon finally visiting the hospital, doctors diagnosed him with a chronic ulcer. The attending physician expressed shock that he had survived without medical intervention, stating that it was nothing short of divine mercy.
Ogogo was hospitalized and spent nearly seven years in a fragile state, frequently vomiting blood and battling for his life. Despite coming close to death multiple times, he credits God's grace for preserving him.
Throughout his recovery, Ogogo received support from numerous spiritual leaders, including a 45-minute prayer session over the phone from a pastor based in the UK. He expressed deep gratitude to all who stood by him during those difficult years.
Though visibly emaciated at the time—"as thin as a stick," he recalled—Ogogo noted that he never had to sell any property or suffer major financial loss.
"I know witches tried, but God did not allow their plans to succeed," he said. "Truly, God is faithful."
The actor, known for his discipline, emphasized that he neither smokes nor drinks, and even when he occasionally takes alcohol, it’s only in moderation and with care.
Ogogo’s story serves as a powerful reminder of resilience, faith, and the unyielding strength of the human spirit.
