Popular on-air personality and rapper, Nnamdi Nwabasili, popularly known as N6, has reacted strongly to ongoing discussions around the creation of additional states in Nigeria.
This comes after the House of Representatives confirmed it had received proposals seeking the creation of 31 new states across the country. In addition, an unverified report circulating on social media claimed that the Senate has approved the creation of 12 of those states—though no official confirmation has been made.
Taking to his X (formerly Twitter) account on Friday, N6 criticized the move, calling it “madness” given Nigeria’s current political and economic climate. He warned that more states would only lead to an increase in political appointments, infrastructure duplication, and widespread misuse of public funds.
He wrote:
“Creating 12 new states in today’s Nigeria is madness. 12 new governors and deputy governors. 12 new government house construction projects. 12 new white elephant airport projects. Lord have mercy.”
N6’s comments reflect growing public skepticism about the practicality and motives behind the push for state creation in a country already grappling with governance and resource challenges.
