Nollywood actor Yemi Solade has publicly apologised to his colleague, Afeez Abiodun, popularly known as Afeez Owo, over an incident that occurred more than two decades ago on a film set.
In a recent appearance on Behind the Fame African A-List, Solade revisited the moment he slapped Afeez during a production on the outskirts of Ibadan, when the latter served as the production manager.
Reflecting on the circumstances that led to the incident, the actor admitted he lost control after the entire location was suddenly plunged into darkness following the day’s filming.
“Let me apologise to Afeez Abiodun. I slapped him once. He was the production manager of a movie, I can’t recall the year exactly. We got to the town outskirts of Ibadan, and when we finished filming, there was a blackout,” Solade recalled.
He explained that tensions were already high and Afeez’s response in the moment only added to his growing frustration.
“As the production manager, he was the one we’d lay our accusations and frustrations on. It got me infuriated because he wasn’t taking me seriously, and that slap came from nowhere, in the dark. I didn’t like that,” he confessed.
Solade went on to reveal that Afeez did not confront him over the issue the following day. Instead, he quietly left the set, leaving Solade with a lasting memory of the uncomfortable event.
“Afeez, I’m sorry. Mabinu simi [please don’t be offended with me]. It’s been a long time, like 20 years. I’ve complained bitterly to some people before, but let me just stick to Afeez directly. I don’t like insults, and that could be my weakness,” he said in a sincere tone.
The actor’s open admission and direct apology have sparked industry-wide conversations about accountability, emotional maturity, and reconciliation within Nollywood.
While Afeez Owo has yet to publicly respond, fans and industry observers have praised Solade’s gesture as a step toward healing and honesty in the creative space.
