In a significant humanitarian gesture, Nigeria's First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has donated the sum of ₦1 billion to assist those affected by the recent violent clashes in Plateau State. The donation is aimed at providing relief and fostering recovery among communities devastated by the ongoing conflict in the region.
The announcement was made on Wednesday during a visit by the First Lady to Plateau State, where she met with state officials, community leaders, and survivors of the violence. The ₦1 billion donation will be channeled through her Renewed Hope Initiative, a foundation focused on social welfare and empowerment programs across Nigeria.
According to Mrs. Tinubu, the donation underscores her commitment to the welfare of Nigerians, particularly women and children who are disproportionately affected during crises.
“We cannot bring back the lives lost, but we can support those left behind to rebuild,” she said. “This gesture is a token of solidarity and compassion from the Renewed Hope Initiative to help families and communities get back on their feet.”
The First Lady also expressed her deep sympathy for the victims and assured them of continued support from the federal government. She emphasized the importance of unity, peace, and reconciliation as necessary steps toward sustainable development in Plateau State.
“I urge everyone to embrace peace. We are one people, and we must work together to heal and grow,” she added.
Plateau State has been grappling with a series of violent outbreaks involving clashes between communities, which have led to loss of lives, destruction of property, and the displacement of many residents. The intervention by the First Lady is seen as a timely and welcome response to the humanitarian needs on the ground.
Local officials and community representatives lauded the First Lady's visit and the financial support, describing it as a morale booster for affected families.
The Renewed Hope Initiative has previously launched several outreach programs across the country, particularly in the areas of women empowerment, education, and disaster relief, aligning with President Bola Tinubu's broader vision for national renewal and inclusivity.
