Nigerian disc jockey and activist, Obianuju Catherine Udeh, popularly known as DJ Switch, has issued a fiery response to Joe Igbokwe, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), after he criticized her for comments she made regarding the late former President Muhammadu Buhari.
DJ Switch, known for her outspoken views and activism, recently took to social media to express her opinion on Buhari's tenure, following the announcement of his death. Her comments did not sit well with Igbokwe, who took to his own social media platform to condemn her remarks. In his post, Igbokwe appeared to question her moral standing and criticized what he described as disrespect for the former leader.
However, DJ Switch did not hold back in her response. In a scathing reply posted online, she blasted Igbokwe and others who she claims are trying to rewrite history or silence dissenting voices. "You and those like you are the reasons Nigeria finds it difficult to progress," she stated.
She continued, calling out what she sees as hypocrisy and selective outrage: "People who weaponize religion and tribalism, then come to preach unity when it suits them."
But the most striking part of her response was her closing line, which quickly went viral:
"History is writing your name in the footnotes under FAILURE."
This sharp remark appeared to summarize her view of Igbokwe's legacy and that of others she believes contributed to Nigeria’s challenges during Buhari’s administration.
DJ Switch rose to national and international prominence following the #EndSARS protests in 2020, where she live-streamed the infamous Lekki Toll Gate shooting. Since then, she has remained a vocal critic of bad governance and human rights abuses in Nigeria.
Her latest exchange with Joe Igbokwe has reignited public debate online, with many Nigerians taking sides. While some defended DJ Switch’s right to speak her mind and criticize public figures, others argued that the death of a former president should call for restraint and respect, regardless of political views.
Joe Igbokwe, known for his pro-APC stance and frequent public commentary, has often been a controversial figure on social media. His reaction to DJ Switch’s post is seen by some as part of a broader attempt by certain political actors to defend the Buhari legacy, despite widespread criticisms of his administration’s record on security, the economy, and human rights.
For now, DJ Switch seems unfazed by the backlash. Her message remains clear: history, not political spin, will be the final judge.
