American billionaire and philanthropist Bill Gates has made an unexpected appearance in a comedy skit featuring Nigerian rapper MI Abaga, alongside popular skit makers Broda Shaggi and Layi Wasabi.
The humorous yet inspiring video was recently shared on MI’s Instagram page and appears to be a promotional effort linked to the Gates Foundation.
“Sometimes you just need another perspective in the studio, and @thisisbillgates didn’t disappoint,” MI wrote in his caption.
“Man really came through to help me crack Ms. Veno Marioghae’s inspiring track! @brodashaggi and @layiwasabi had to do their jobs too. 🏍️ When good people come together, magic happens – Na together we go win!”
The skit begins with MI in a recording booth, visibly struggling to perfect a song with the help of his backup singers. Unsatisfied, he picks up his phone and calls none other than Bill Gates.
Gates answers and immediately springs into action. He hops on a motorcycle driven by Broda Shaggi, who plays a spirited okada rider. Their journey is soon interrupted by Layi Wasabi, portraying a dramatic police officer at a checkpoint. A comical back-and-forth ensues before Shaggi outsmarts the officer and zooms away with his passenger.
When they finally arrive at the studio, MI explains his creative block. Gates listens carefully to the track before offering thoughtful advice.
“It is still missing us. It is missing connectedness,” Gates observes. “I think we have to make it and show it that we are all in this together.”
MI then asks him how he stays hopeful given the many global issues that persist. Gates responds with a balanced view of optimism and realism.
“I balance optimism with realism,” he says. “With the right innovations, I believe Africa can overcome its toughest problems.”
The skit, which blends humor with serious themes of unity and innovation, has quickly gained traction online. Fans have praised the collaboration for breaking new ground, using comedy and music to drive home a message of shared responsibility and progress.
