In a major corruption case that stunned the nation, Balthazar Egwas sentenced today to 18 years behind bars after being convicted of embezzling more than 1 billion Francs from public coffers.
Court documents reveal that Egonga siphoned off an estimated 910 million Francs for his personal use. Much of the misappropriated funds reportedly went toward extravagant indulgences, including luxury items and a lavish lifestyle centered around women and fleeting pleasures.
