British-Nigerian boxing sensation, Anthony Joshua, has stunned fans and boxing analysts alike by revealing that 2025 could be his final year as a professional boxer.

The two-time former unified heavyweight champion, who has been one of the most recognizable faces in the sport over the last decade, made the bombshell revelation amid speculation about his future following a period of inactivity.

Joshua, 35, has not fought since his devastating knockout defeat to fellow Briton Daniel Dubois at Wembley Stadium last September.

The loss was a painful setback in what has been a rollercoaster career, filled with world titles, dramatic comebacks, and blockbuster bouts.

While many anticipated an immediate rematch between Joshua and Dubois, it was soon revealed that ‘AJ’ had suffered minor injuries in the fight and needed time to recover before returning to the ring.

In a recent statement, Joshua hinted at winding down his career, stating that 2025 may be his final chapter in the sport.

Though he did not offer a definite retirement date, the fact that he is now openly talking about stepping away from boxing has raised concerns among his fanbase and within the boxing community.

The heavyweight icon recently underwent a successful elbow surgery, which had sidelined him further. However, talks of a return have been heating up, with fans and pundits speculating on who his next opponent might be. So far, no official fight has been confirmed, though a potential rematch with Dubois or long-awaited bout with Tyson Fury remains on the table.

Joshua’s possible retirement comes at a pivotal time. While his popularity and global appeal remain strong, questions have emerged about his hunger for the sport and his ability to compete at the highest level, especially following his losses to Oleksandr Usyk and more recently, Daniel Dubois. Still, Joshua has consistently shown resilience, bouncing back from defeats and proving critics wrong.

In previous interviews, Joshua had accepted terms to face WBC champion Tyson Fury in what would be one of the biggest fights in British boxing history.

Although negotiations have repeatedly fallen apart, the former Olympic gold medalist insists he remains open to that showdown. Fury himself once remarked that he was willing to fight Joshua "for free," underscoring the intensity and public demand for the bout.

Despite the setbacks, Joshua’s legacy in boxing is secure. From his explosive rise through the heavyweight ranks to reclaiming his titles in a dominant fashion against Andy Ruiz Jr., AJ has cemented his place as one of the most influential boxers of his generation.

A potential retirement would mark the end of an era and leave a significant gap in the heavyweight division.

As the world waits for official confirmation on his next fight, the question on everyone’s lips is: will 2025 truly be Anthony Joshua’s last dance in the ring?
