Nollywood mourns the loss of one of its legends, veteran actor Tom Njemanze, who passed away at the age of 75 after a long fight with prostate cancer. Known for his remarkable talent, distinctive voice, and charismatic presence, Tom Njemanze’s contribution to the Nigerian movie industry will be deeply missed.
Popular Nollywood movie producer Stanley Ontop broke the sad news on Instagram, sharing that despite all efforts to save the veteran star, he succumbed to his illness. Describing Tom’s death as “the loss of another Nollywood legend,” Stanley wrote:
*“It’s another sad period as we just received news from Tom Njemanze’s family that he has succumbed to his ailment and passed on yesterday. May his soul rest in peace. We tried to save him, but God knows best. Nollywood lost another legend.”*
The announcement has sparked an outpouring of condolences from fans, colleagues, and industry insiders alike. Before his passing, Stanley Ontop had appealed publicly for financial assistance to support Tom Njemanze’s urgent surgery after revealing his serious health condition.
Tom Njemanze’s acting career began in the 1990s, and he earned widespread acclaim for his performances in numerous films such as *Tokunboh*, *Pounds and Dollars*, *Atosa*, *Issakaba*, *Osuofia in London*, *Brain Box*, and *Igbotic Love*.
This loss comes shortly after the Nollywood community also bid farewell to veteran actress Nkechi Nweje in March, who died due to complications following stomach surgery. Nkechi had been recovering well but unfortunately experienced setbacks that led to her passing. She was laid to rest in her hometown of Onitsha, Anambra State, in May.
May the souls of Tom Njemanze, Nkechi Nweje, and all other departed Nollywood stars rest peacefully. Their legacies will forever remain a vital part of Nigeria’s rich film history.
