Aliko Dangote to Step Down as Chairman of Dangote Cement Board by July 2025.

Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, has officially announced his retirement as Chairman and Director of Dangote Cement Plc*, effective July 25, 2025. The strategic move was revealed in a statement on Friday by Anthony Chiejina, Chief, Branding and Communications Officer of the Dangote Group.

 

According to Chiejina, Dangote is stepping aside to focus more intensively on his other multi-billion-dollar ventures, including the Dangote Petroleum Refinery, petrochemical and fertiliser plants, and key engagements in government relations.

 

“Foremost entrepreneur and founder of Dangote Cement Plc, Aliko Dangote has announced his retirement as a Director and the Chairman of the Board of Directors, effective July 25, 2025,” said Chiejina.

 

“He is relinquishing his position as chairman and retiring from the board so as to focus more attention on the Refinery, Petrochemicals, Fertiliser and Government Relations, in order to drive the company’s five-year business trajectory to a superlative height,” he added.

 

The board of Dangote Cement, Nigeria’s largest cement producer and a major player in the African construction industry, has appointed Emmanuel Ikazoboh, an independent non-executive director, as the incoming chairman.

 

In further board changes, Hajiya Mariya Aliko Dangote has been named to the board of directors, while 

Prof. Dorothy Ufot, an independent non-executive director, has officially retired.

 

With this development, Dangote will channel his focus towards scaling up operations at his refinery megaproject, positioning Nigeria as a key hub in Africa’s energy and industrial sectors.
