Grammy-winning Beninese singer, Angelique Kidjo, has made history as the first African artist to be honoured with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
The iconic musician is among the newly announced 2026 inductees, a list released by the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce.
Kidjo’s selection marks a major milestone not only in her illustrious career but also for the African continent at large.
Known for her powerful vocals, electrifying stage presence, and ability to fuse Afrobeat, funk, reggae, and other global genres, she has long been celebrated as one of Africa’s most influential musical exports.
Other global stars on the 2026 Hollywood Walk of Fame list include American pop sensation Miley Cyrus, Oscar-nominated French actor Timothée Chalamet, basketball legend Shaquille O’Neal, and Canadian actress Rachel McAdams.
Filipino icon Lea Salonga, British star Emily Blunt, Indian actress Deepika Padukone, and French actress Marion Cotillard are also among the honorees.
Though the dates for the star ceremonies are yet to be announced, recipients have a two-year window to schedule their unveilings.
Kidjo’s historic recognition follows years of breaking barriers in global music. With five Grammy Awards to her name and countless humanitarian accolades, she has consistently used her platform to promote African identity, education for girls, and unity through music.
Reacting to the announcement, fans and fellow artists across the world have lauded the development. Nigerian singer Davido once said, “Angelique Kidjo opened global doors for African artists,” while many others regard her as a cultural trailblazer who paved the way for a new generation.
This Walk of Fame honour not only cements her legacy in world music but also amplifies the voice of Africa in one of the world’s most iconic entertainment landmarks.
