Nigerian musician Baba Fryo has weighed in on the highly discussed collapse of the marriage between iconic singer 2Baba and actress Annie Idibia, attributing the split largely to the challenges of life within the entertainment industry.
Speaking during an episode of the Honest Bunch podcast, Fryo shared his perspective on the relationship, stating that both partners being entertainers may have contributed to the instability.
“2Face and his ex-wife didn’t manage themselves well. They are both entertainers. Annie is an actress, and 2Face is a musician,” he said.
Fryo elaborated that relationships, especially in showbiz, require a certain balance that can be difficult to maintain when both individuals are immersed in the same lifestyle. Drawing from traditional expectations, he emphasized the role of the woman in keeping the marriage grounded.
“In marriage, when the couple are out, the woman must watch the man. When the man is drinking, the woman will be watching him, and if he is drinking too much, the woman will calm him. But if you marry a woman who also drinks, when you’re both drunk, who will take the other home?” he questioned.
The veteran singer suggested that such situations could lead to insecurity within the relationship, prompting one partner to seek emotional stability elsewhere.
“When a man sees that, he will become insecure in the marriage. And when he goes out and sees another woman with a different attitude… I’m not saying it’s a good attitude, oh, because even 2Face’s current lover, Natasha, is someone I have known,” Fryo added.
Offering a personal connection to 2Baba’s current partner, Fryo revealed, “She is someone I have known since childhood. I once carried her on my lap when she was just three years old.”
His remarks have ignited widespread online debate. While some agree with Fryo’s assessment that the entertainment lifestyle can strain relationships, others criticized his views for reinforcing traditional gender roles and placing the burden of marital stability solely on women.
