UK-based reality TV star Natasha Akide, popularly known as Tacha, has taken aim at the conduct of some Nigerian pastors, insisting many of them would not get away with their actions if they were outside the country.
Tacha made the remarks in reaction to a viral video involving Pastor Paul Adefarasin of House on the Rock Church, who was filmed holding what appeared to be a firearm during a confrontation with a car spotter. The video has sparked widespread debate, with many calling for accountability.
Pastor Adefarasin later denied holding a gun, claiming the object was not a firearm and that the car spotter was aggressive. Tacha, however, dismissed this explanation, accusing the pastor of attempting to gaslight the public.
In a video shared on her official X (formerly Twitter) account, Tacha said: “There’s nothing I hate more than gaslighting. Everyone saw the video. The boy wasn’t aggressive. In fact, he was even hailing the pastor.”
She criticized the church’s response, especially the congregation’s applause during the pastor’s explanation in Sunday’s service. “What exactly were they clapping for?” she asked. “It’s disturbing how quick people are to excuse wrong just because it’s coming from a religious figure.”
Tacha also recalled another incident allegedly involving Pastor Adefarasin last year, where he reportedly smashed a bus windscreen after a minor traffic incident.
She used the opportunity to question the credibility of many Nigerian pastors, saying, “90 percent of Nigerian pastors wouldn’t last a year if they tried this kind of behaviour abroad. Their version of Christianity wouldn’t be tolerated.”
Calling out hypocrisy, Tacha argued that if a politician had done the same, social media would be in uproar. “Let’s stop being selective. Wrong is wrong,” she concluded.
