Stephen Nana, popularly known as Stevenator, has finally spoken out about why he parted ways with his former client, Afrobeats sensation Asake.

In a now-viral interview circulating on social media, the ex-manager disclosed that the singer’s meteoric rise made it increasingly difficult for him to cope, both professionally and personally.

Stevenator served as Asake’s manager from 2022 to 2024, a period marked by the artist’s rapid ascent in the Nigerian music industry. He revealed that the opportunity came through YBNL boss Olamide, who had been his longtime friend.

“Olamide called me one day and told me that he had an artiste he would want me to manage. And that was the first time I’m going into management. I don’t know anything about the job. I have been friends with Olamide for over 20 years,” he said.

According to Stevenator, he had never met or heard of Asake before that call, and was thrown into the deep end as Asake’s popularity skyrocketed. “Asake blew up so quickly that there was no time to learn the job, so it was back to back,” he explained.

While trying to keep up with the fast-paced demands of the job, Stevenator said his family life began to suffer. “The challenge was my family. At a time I had two sons and I did not have time to spend with them. I’m a family guy… but still then I still have to make money so they can live a better life,” he shared.

He recalled a painful moment that made him reconsider his priorities: “Sometimes we are on the road for four to five months. I’m always on my phone with my kids. So I asked them to come to London and my second son refused me to carry him because he doesn’t know me.”

That emotional experience became a turning point for Stevenator, who ultimately chose to step back from managing Asake to focus on his home life. “Asake became way too big that I have to be following him everywhere he goes. So, I’m now a family man, and I love my wife,” he concluded.

The revelation paints a picture of the behind-the-scenes pressure that comes with managing superstar artists—and the personal sacrifices that sometimes follow.
