American rapper and music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs has had multiple charges dismissed in his ongoing sex trafficking trial, though several key accusations remain as the high-profile case nears its conclusion.

The entertainment icon, who has been in court since May, is still facing serious charges related to sex trafficking and sexual abuse. However, prosecutors have withdrawn some of the more severe allegations, including attempted kidnapping, attempted arson, and aiding and abetting sex trafficking.

In a letter to presiding judge Arun Subramanian, prosecutors explained that the dismissal was part of an effort to comply with the court’s directive to “streamline jury instructions.”

Despite the dropped charges, Combs remains under scrutiny for alleged sex trafficking. Prosecutors reportedly struggled to provide sufficient evidence to support kidnapping claims involving former employee Capricorn Clark and singer Cassie Ventura.

Clark claimed she was pressured into taking a polygraph test after jewelry went missing, while Cassie alleged she was held against her will at a London hotel.

The attempted arson charge, which accused Combs of ordering an attack on rapper Kid Cudi’s car out of jealousy, was also dropped due to lack of direct evidence linking him to the incident.

While prosecutors continue to pursue the core sex trafficking case, they have eliminated elements like the aiding and abetting component. They have not specified which parts of the sex trafficking charges would be excluded from jury consideration.

In their letter, prosecutors urged the court to remind jurors that “prior consent to sexual activity does not eliminate a person’s right to withdraw that consent at a later time.” They also emphasized that “the presence of payment does not rule out the possibility of forced labor,” highlighting a key legal point in sex trafficking cases.

Multiple witnesses have testified throughout the trial, which is now approaching its final stages as jurors prepare to deliberate on the remaining charges.
