Ruger Says Genuine Friendships in Music Industry Are Rare

Afrobeats sensation Michael Adebayo Olayinka, popularly known as Ruger, has shared his thoughts on the nature of relationships within the Nigerian music industry, stating that true friendships are extremely rare.

Speaking in a recent episode of The Stanley Agu Show, the singer revealed that most industry connections are driven by business interests rather than loyalty or genuine support.

“One thing I wished I had known earlier is that no one is your friend in the [music] industry,” he said. “The most you can have is maybe two genuine friends that stand by you and want to see you grow and even when things are bad, they are with you and making sure that you are good. That’s all, man.”

Ruger explained that many artists find themselves surrounded by people only when they are relevant or have something to offer, warning that such relationships often fade when fame or influence diminishes.

“Everything is business. Nobody cares. Just know that everything is business,” he said. “They are moving around with you because you can offer at that time. The moment you might not be able to offer anything, a lot of people will switch.”

He concluded by emphasizing just how limited real friendships can be in the entertainment space.

“Remember, the most friends you can have in the industry might be two or one or none,” he added.
