R. Kelly’s attorney, Beau Brindley, has filed an emergency motion in federal court seeking the singer’s immediate removal from federal custody amid explosive claims of a murder plot allegedly orchestrated by prison officials.
The motion, filed on June 10, includes a sworn declaration from inmate Mikeal Glenn Stine, who claims Bureau of Prisons (BOP) officials allegedly directed him to kill the embattled R&B singer.
According to the motion, Stine who identifies as a former commissioner of the Aryan Brotherhoodalleges that three senior BOP officials arranged for him to be transferred to the same facility as Kelly and placed in the same unit.
He claims they promised him freedom in exchange for carrying out the hit, due to his terminal cancer diagnosis.
Stine alleges he was approached shortly after arriving at the Federal Correctional Institute Butner in North Carolina, and told: “You need to do what you came here for.” He claims he ultimately refused to follow through and instead warned Kelly about the alleged plot.
Brindley emphasized that the threat should not be taken lightly, citing Kelly’s past assaults while in custody. “He is not safe in federal custody,” the attorney said, calling the circumstances “cruel and unusual punishment.”
Despite Stine’s criminal history and reputation for filing lawsuits, Kelly’s legal team argues that the severity of the allegations demands urgent action. They insist that home confinement is the only way to ensure the singer’s safety.
Kelly is currently serving a 30-year sentence for crimes including sexual exploitation of minors and racketeering. The court has yet to rule on the motion, but the claims have sparked widespread concern over inmate safety and the conduct of federal prison officials.
