Straw surprised me in a lot of ways. Tyler Perry takes a bold turn here, delivering a film that feels more grounded and emotionally nuanced than many of his previous works. What really stood out to me was Taraji P. Henson’s performance—she completely disappears into her role, capturing the emotional exhaustion, quiet resilience, and inner turmoil of a woman trying to survive in a system that’s clearly failing her. Her portrayal felt painfully real, and I found myself thinking about her character long after the credits rolled.

The themes hit close to home—especially the way the film dives into mental health and generational trauma in communities that are often overlooked. Perry doesn't sugarcoat things here, and while that can make for a heavy viewing experience, it also makes the story feel honest and necessary.

That said, the final act felt a bit over-the-top to me. The dramatic twist didn’t quite match the realism that the rest of the film built up. It’s not enough to derail the story, but it did pull me out of the experience for a moment. Still, I can understand why it’s dividing audiences—it's ambitious, and ambition always comes with risk.

In the end, Straw is a film that stays with you. It’s not perfect, but it’s powerful, especially if you’re drawn to stories that reflect real-life pain and perseverance. I appreciated the heart behind it, and even if the execution isn’t flawless, the intent and the impact are hard to ignore.

This is a must watch movie. I personally would rate this move 9.8/10.
