Fast-rising Nollywood star Olamide Ewaoluwatomi, popularly known as Midebams, has opened up about the intense pressure she faces to live up to the legacy of her famous parents.
The budding actress, who is the daughter of actor Segun Ogungbe and granddaughter of the late film legend Akin Ogungbe, spoke candidly about the challenges that come with being born into a well-known film family.
“Being the daughter of a famous actor has been amazing and a big blessing which comes with a lot of pressure because the expectations are high. People set high standards for people like us because of the successes of our parents and one is constantly under that pressure of not wanting to disappoint,” she said in a recent interview.
Although she acknowledges that her father’s influence has helped her rise, Midebams believes her efforts are what truly set her apart. “My dad’s popularity has had a great influence over my career growth, but my hard work and diligence has brought me this far,” she added.
With her mother, Atinuke Ogungbe, also a well-known actress, Midebams appears destined for the screen. However, her journey into acting didn’t begin in front of the camera. She revealed that she started out in the film industry as a makeup artist.
“Before starting my acting career, I first started as a makeup artist. As a makeup artist who is transitioning into acting, it wasn’t a walk in the park. I faced various challenges adapting to new roles and the expectations are high working with diverse personalities. Navigating these dynamics has been a key learning experience for me,” she shared.
Despite her background, the actress disclosed that she has experienced bullying from senior colleagues.
“In my own point of view, I think some of them don’t want you to grow. Some don’t want you to be like them even if you’re looking up to them, and see that as an inferiority complex,” she said.
