A powerful and emotionally resonant film, Out In The Darkness, is set to arrive in Nigerian cinemas from July 4, 2025, with a clear mission: to shine a light on the often-silent struggles many mothers face after childbirth.

Tackling the sensitive subject of postpartum depression, the film aims to validate the voices of women who have felt unheard, unseen, or misunderstood in their journey through motherhood.

Written and directed by Sarah Stella Kwaji, who also serves as the executive producer, the film presents a heartfelt narrative centred on the internal battles mothers face that are frequently overlooked by society. Out In The Darkness delves into the emotional toll of childbirth, the hidden trauma behind the smiles, and the quiet resilience of women navigating life after bringing new life into the world.

Boasting a diverse and star-studded cast, the film features compelling performances from Kehinde Bankole, Deyemi Okanlawon, Tina Mba, Bimbo Akintola, Liquorose, Symply Tacha, Prince Jide Kosoko, Jennifer Eliogu, Ronke Oshodi-Oke, Woli Agba, and Iganga Grace, among many others. Each actor brings a unique depth to the story, portraying characters that reflect real-life experiences and emotional complexities.

Produced under SSK Productions, with distribution by Genesis Cinemas, the project is already gaining attention for its thematic relevance and social impact. Early teasers hint at a raw and honest cinematic portrayal of mental health challenges faced by new mothers, an issue rarely spotlighted in mainstream African cinema.

‘Out In The Darkness’ is not just another film—it is a message of solidarity and healing. It’s a tribute to every mother navigating pain in silence and a bold step toward reshaping the cultural conversation around maternal mental health.

Audiences across Nigeria can expect a stirring blend of drama, realism, and empathy when the film premieres this July.
