Senior Pastor of House on the Rock Church, Paul Adefarasin, has voluntarily turned himself in to the Lagos State Police Command amid a viral controversy involving a video that allegedly shows him holding a firearm.
The development was confirmed on Tuesday by the Command’s spokesperson, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, who stated via WhatsApp that Adefarasin is currently undergoing interrogation at the State Command Headquarters in Ikeja.
“No one is above the law! Pastor Paul Adefarasin has turned himself in… and is currently being interrogated by detectives,” Hundeyin wrote.
The incident stems from a video clip that surfaced online last week. In the footage, Adefarasin is seen holding a metallic object during what appears to be a confrontation with a passerby who was filming him. Many viewers on social media speculated that the object was a gun, sparking widespread public concern and criticism.
In a statement released over the weekend on his verified social media pages, Adefarasin denied carrying or pointing a gun at anyone. He described the circulating claim as a misunderstanding and clarified that the object in question was not a firearm.
Despite the clarification, police authorities have launched a full investigation to ascertain the facts surrounding the incident. According to CSP Hundeyin, detectives are reviewing the video, including the context and legality of the unregistered vehicle Adefarasin was allegedly driving during the encounter.
“The outcome of the investigation will be made public,” Hundeyin assured. The pastor’s action has drawn mixed reactions, with some praising his decision to cooperate with law enforcement while others await the police's findings.
This development adds a serious tone to a story that started as a trending video but has now turned into a legal and reputational matter involving one of Nigeria’s most prominent clergymen.
