Veteran Nollywood actress and fitness advocate, Kate Henshaw, has openly criticized popular TikTok personality, Peller, over a controversial video in which he imitates individuals with mental disabilities.
The video, which has since gone viral, features Peller mimicking the behavior and speech of people with intellectual and psychological challenges, allegedly for comedic purposes. However, the skit has sparked widespread outrage, with many calling it distasteful and offensive.
Reacting via her X (formerly Twitter) account, Henshaw condemned the act, describing it as deeply insensitive.
“Disability is NOT a joke!! Stop this nonsense!” she wrote.
Renowned for using her platform to advocate for social justice, Henshaw stressed that such content is harmful, particularly at a time when conversations around disability inclusion and rights are gaining momentum in Nigeria.
The backlash on social media has been swift, with numerous users echoing Henshaw’s sentiments. Advocates for disability rights also joined the discourse, urging content creators to refrain from using marginalized groups as punchlines.
“Be funny without making others feel less human,” one user wrote.
As of the time of this report, Peller has not released any official response or apology regarding the matter.
The incident has reignited discussions around ethical boundaries in online comedy and the need for influencers to consider the impact of their content on vulnerable communities.
