Former U.S. First Lady, Michelle Obama, has stirred conversations online after revealing she’s happy she never had a son.
The candid moment came during a new episode of her popular Light Podcast, where she sat down with her brother, Craig Robinson, and radio host Angie Martinez to discuss parenting, masculinity, and societal expectations on boys.
While the conversation was light-hearted, Michelle’s comments struck a chord. When Angie joked, “You should’ve thrown a boy in the mix,” Michelle laughed and responded, “I’m so glad I didn’t have a boy!” She then explained her reason with a cheeky twist: “Because he would’ve been a Barack Obama.” Her guests burst into laughter.
Michelle elaborated that raising a boy who resembled former President Barack Obama both in looks and expectations would have been daunting. “I would’ve felt for him,” she added, noting how difficult it would be to grow up under the shadow of a global icon like her husband.
The podcast episode offered a rare glimpse into Michelle’s personal parenting reflections. She and Barack have two daughters, Malia and Sasha, now 26 and 24 respectively.
Her brother Craig joked that she had “borrowed” his sons enough times, to which Michelle agreed, noting she already had enough “sons” in her life without giving birth to one.
Michelle’s honest take added a humorous yet thoughtful perspective on motherhood and the pressures that come with raising children in the public eye. As usual, she blended wit with wisdom, sparking both laughter and conversation among listeners.
