Popular broadcaster and outspoken critic of Nigerian religious leaders, Daddy Freeze, has recounted the heavy backlash he faced years ago for openly challenging the actions of some Christian pastors.
Speaking on The Honest Bunch podcast where he recently replaced comedian Nedu as co-host Daddy Freeze said his stance on religious accountability once put his life and his family’s safety in danger.
He revealed that after going through a divorce, his pastor attempted to reconcile him with his ex-wife. However, when he refused, he was excommunicated from serving in church or even sitting in the front row during services.
He described the experience as hypocritical, citing how Jesus never rejected people because of their past, yet he was treated like a criminal for simply walking away from a failed marriage.
Freeze explained that this turning point led him to leave the church and dive into deep biblical studies, learning scripture in its original languages. According to him, once anyone truly understands the depth of the scriptures, most Nigerian pastors’ messages no longer hold water.
“I received death threats, and they extended to my family,” he said. “That was 10 years ago, but it gave others the boldness to question the church system.”
Daddy Freeze added that his controversial work laid the foundation for the current wave of Nigerians challenging religious institutions, noting that his goal was never to attack faith but to demand truth, integrity, and accountability.
Despite the threats and criticism, the media personality remains undeterred, saying the movement he helped spark is bigger than him. “I did the work so that people can speak freely today,” he concluded.?
