Oluwatoyin Alao-Aderinto, first daughter of the late former Oyo State governor, Adebayo Alao-Akala, has taken legal steps to resolve questions surrounding the paternity of several individuals identified as the politician’s biological children.
In a suit filed before the Oyo State High Court in Ibadan and marked I/443/2024, Alao-Aderinto, through her legal representative Oladipo Olasope, asked the court to order DNA tests for herself and six others: Olamide, Adebukola, Olamipo, Olamiju (currently a member of the House of Representatives), Tabitha, and Olamikunle. She requested that the tests be carried out at a certified, court-approved medical facility to determine their biological connection to the late governor.
Alao-Aderinto also asked the court to approve the exhumation of her father’s remains for the purpose of conducting the genetic tests. She further requested that the DNA results be submitted in a sealed form to the presiding judge and only made public during a formal court hearing.
The legal move follows internal disputes over the late governor’s estate since his passing on January 12, 2022, in Ogbomoso at the age of 71.
Named as defendants in the suit are Kemi Alao-Akala, the governor’s widow, and Olamide Alabi, one of the individuals listed for the DNA test. The claimant accused both of securing a letter of administration for the estate without informing or seeking the consent of other family members. She raised concerns that such actions could lead to the marginalisation of some potential heirs and misappropriation of assets.
Alao-Aderinto is urging the court to revoke the current letter of administration and issue an order preventing the defendants from selling or transferring any property linked to the estate.
In her affidavit, she alleged that key information was deliberately concealed and other rightful heirs were excluded to gain full control of the estate.
The disputed estate reportedly includes properties in major cities such as Ibadan, Lagos, and Abuja, as well as in Ghana, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Other listed assets include a luxury hotel in Ghana, a fleet of vehicles, and multiple bank accounts in naira, dollars, and pounds sterling.
