Nigerian photographer and influencer, Toni Payne, has voiced her displeasure with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) regarding their recent scrutiny of Nigerian celebrities over the issue of naira abuse.

Taking to social media, Payne expressed frustration over what she perceives as the country’s misplaced priorities, questioning why the EFCC is focusing on money spraying while more critical issues like poverty, lack of power, and unemployment continue to affect Nigerians.

She remarked, “Naija has the most f****d up priorities out of all the problems facing the country, spraying of money (even dollars that isn’t their currency) is their issue? People are starving, there is no steady power supply, and there is a lack of jobs, and this is what they are about? I’m convinced the powers that be want to keep people miserable because why try to remove such a joyful tradition?”

She further criticized the EFCC’s repeated invitations to celebrities over the matter, questioning their true intentions. “What is the goal? Wow! People should start taking their events out of Naija. If something so minuscule can get you arrested, it’s insâne!! Imagine saying putting it on someone’s body is a crime. So, if I had your money normally, is that not part of your body?” she added.

Payne also pointed out how actress Iyabo Ojo had been cautious with money spraying, yet was still summoned by the EFCC, questioning the logic behind the commission’s actions.

Concluding her thoughts, Payne suggested Nigerians begin hosting events outside the country to avoid the crackdown. “Destination events are the way to go. F*** that shit. I trust my people, they will find a way around it. Digital bank alert cards or something, cos wtf.”
