Nigerian filmmaker Tolu Ajayi’s critically acclaimed drama Over the Bridge is expanding its reach, with a May 30 theatrical release set across eight French-speaking West African countries.
The regional launch is backed by Tribe Nation Theatrical Distribution in collaboration with The Garden Theatre Company.
The film, a stirring story of guilt and personal redemption, follows a successful man whose career unravels after a government project he leads collapses. Overcome with shame, he disappears, embarking on a soul-searching journey that redefines his values and sense of identity.
Audiences in Senegal, Benin, Togo, Cameroon, Burkina Faso, Congo, Gabon, and Guinea will be able to watch the film at Canal Olympia cinemas, as screenings have been arranged in both urban and rural locations to ensure widespread access.
With a strong ensemble cast that includes Joke Silva, Ozzy Agu, Segilola Ogidan, Chimezie Imo, Deyemi Okanlawon, Toyin Oshinaike, and Akin Lewis, the movie delivers an emotional portrayal of ambition, failure, and forgiveness in contemporary Africa. The actors bring raw, heartfelt performances that elevate the storytelling.
Ajayi, known for his distinctive cinematic voice and previous work in both film and advertising, has already drawn international attention with Over the Bridge.
The film has received positive coverage from notable global platforms and was featured at the prestigious FESPACO festival earlier this year.
This expansion into Francophone territories signifies a growing momentum for Nollywood films seeking to engage wider African audiences. Tribe Nation’s involvement also marks another step in building a truly pan-African film market.
As Ajayi’s film travels beyond Nigeria’s borders, it adds to a growing movement of African filmmakers reshaping the continent’s narrative through compelling, globally resonant stories
