Music producer Samklef has called out Afrobeats superstar Davido over his support for controversial social media figure, VeryDarkMan, who is currently in EFCC custody.
Taking to social media, Samklef criticized Davido’s perceived silence and inaction, especially his absence at a protest calling for VeryDarkMan's release. According to him, Davido’s public support feels like clout-chasing rather than genuine activism.
“People wey suppose go protest for am dey warm eba chop,” he tweeted sarcastically. “I been think say Davido wan go help am?”
Samklef further questioned VeryDarkMan’s integrity, recalling some of his past online rants and controversies. He accused the social media activist of being selective in his criticism, alleging that he has previously targeted Igbo businessmen and even threatened Samklef himself in the past.
“This same VDM that once said he would help Davido ‘kpiá’ me some Nigerian youths are just too gullible and biased,” he wrote.
He went on to say that VeryDarkMan is currently facing the consequences of his actions and must be ready to endure everything that comes with the role he’s chosen for himself.
“You wan be messiah? Every messiah must face the cross,” Samklef said, adding that being a public figure also comes with accountability.
Despite his criticism, Samklef predicted that the EFCC would eventually release VeryDarkMan once investigations are concluded, making it clear that he does not support his continued detention—but neither does he believe the activist is blameless.
“EFCC or whoever picked VDM up will release him once they’re done with him. Simple,” he concluded.
The drama between artists and influencers continues to unfold on social media as opinions remain divided on VeryDarkMan’s activism and Davido’s public alignment with him.
