Controversial performer Darlington Okoye, widely recognized by his stage name Speed Darlington, has been summoned by the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) over allegations suggesting inappropriate conduct with a minor.
The development comes in response to a recent Instagram Live broadcast where the singer reportedly made a troubling claim about being sexually involved with a 15-year-old girl. His comments quickly sparked public outrage and drew the attention of authorities.
The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) formally referred the incident to NAPTIP, calling for a prompt and comprehensive investigation into the matter, citing the seriousness of the allegations.
As criticism mounted online, Speed Darlington released a follow-up video in which he attempted to clarify the situation, stating that his earlier remarks were part of a marketing gimmick aimed at generating attention for a forthcoming music release.
In the same video, he expressed remorse, offering an apology to anyone offended or upset by his comments.
NAPTIP, in an official statement issued on Thursday, confirmed that the entertainer had been invited for questioning and cautioned that legal action could follow if he fails to respond to the summons.
The agency emphasized its unwavering commitment to safeguarding children and ensuring that all individuals accused of sexual exploitation or abuse are held accountable under the law.
