Nollywood actress Mercy Aigbe recently shared a personal story highlighting the importance of open communication between parents and their children, especially when it comes to healing from childhood trauma.
She recounted an experience involving her daughter, whom she had sent to Canada for her education. One day, Aigbe said, she tried calling her daughter multiple times but got no response. Concerned, she reached out to one of her daughter's friends. Eventually, her daughter returned the call and made a surprising revelation.
According to Aigbe, her daughter said, "Mummy, I am traumatized, I remember how you h!t a bucket on my head when I was young." Reacting to the unexpected comment, Aigbe admitted, "I was like are you mad?"
Despite her initial reaction, the actress said she later reflected on her daughter's words and offered an apology for what she described as a harsh upbringing.
“It is time parents start having conversations with their kids. We have a lot of damaged adults in the society who have not healed from their childhood trauma. African parents are too proud to apologize,” Aigbe added, emphasizing the need for emotional accountability and healing in parenting.
